Sue Reid and I met this summer and she was so enthusiastic about the book and the topics in it. Her podcast focuses on establishing and developing self-esteem which fits perfectly in the ideas covered in Reclaim the Moment: 7 Strategies to Build a Better Now.
Specifically, I wrote about how we build a sense that we matter and that the people around us matter. Its essential that we know that we are involved in meaningful work.
I discuss it in the book, repeatedly actually: the idea that we expand into who we are when we are in relationship. When we become more ourselves, we are able to be more present in a chaotic world for the people with whom we work and create.
This is teamwork in action as most teamwork discussions often end with simply working better together. But why would we want to work together? What is the actual reason we need to or would want to do this? It is because when we are on a team, we become more of ourselves. We have a vested interest in being part of a team because we expand in conjunction with the people we interact with.
It is our interactions with other people that help define who we are. We see ourselves reflected in them and we grow into our identity as a result. This is self-esteem work in action too.
This also is what allows us to be more powerful contributors to that team. If we can develop teams that are intentional when it comes to really connecting with one another, the sky is the limit for how far we can go and grow.
